“Immaculate White” by A. Slastyonoff
For centuries, the color white has meant a number of things to a number of people, yet the symbolism has remained the same throughout cultures. In almost every culture on the planet, white represents purity, virginity, and possibility. And in this series, you get a glimpse into all those qualities, as told through the lens of master photographer, A. Slastyonoff, and his delicious model, whose “whiteness” carries with it a host of tantalizing sensations.
White has always been linked to purity. Living without stain, free of sin, remaining, as the title says, immaculate despite life’s many attempts at corruption, the “white” female is more than just a skin color – she’s a symbol of someone who has risen above the tainting aspects of the world and maintained her innate purity. She has not been soiled by desire, by greed, by deception. Instead, she comes to us as pure as new driven snow, as fresh as a blue sky, and as sweet as perfectly ripe young blueberries. She is purity like only nature can create and maintain.
Virginity is another notion associated with whiteness. Have you ever wondered why the ancients were so obsessed with virginity? Entire dramatic structures depend on the notion itself, such as Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. But in order to appreciate the obsession, one must go back in time and remember…there was no Internet, no images of nude young females circulating. The only chance a man got to actually see the object of his desire was to see her in the flesh. So the experience was so rare, the cult of the virgin became a symbol of “the rarely seen young woman.” It was bolstered, of course, by the connotations to the virgin in the Holy Scripture. Be that as it may, the white virgin is a symbol of absolute desirability mixed with total lack of corruption. She is supremely sexual, though she’s never had sex.
Finally, white means possibility. It is the empty canvas, the blank page, the unblemished flesh that is ripe for touching. All things are possible on a white foreground, which is why the “white” in a model or in a photographic composition so grabs the heart and eye. It speaks of things to come, pleasures to be had.
Enjoy the whiteness in this series. It is everywhere. In the light, in the flesh, in the setting. And in those elements you will find purity, virginity, possibility. All for your delight.
